Here is some background information about the artist from the artist:
"I grew up in upstate New York, spending summers in the Adirondacks where my father was a club golf professional. Naturally I aspired to play professional golf and attended Florida State University on a partial golf scholarship. I also liked to draw and was encouraged enough to major in art and art history. I spent six fantastic months in Florence, Italy studying art history my last semester of college.
I eventually settled down in California on the Monterey Peninsula, famous for its golf courses (Pebble Beach) and art community (Carmel-By The-Sea). I’ve resided here for the past two decades the latter as a painter and art instructor. I’m a member of the historic Carmel Art Association (estab.1927) and an instructor for the Carmel Adult School.
I enjoy the challenge of painting a variety of subject matter, land/seascapes, architecture, still-life and the figure, but being an outdoor person, painting en plein air suits me to a tee. I enter many juried national art shows, and plein air events. In 2005 my painting Monterey Morning won People’s Choice Award and was featured on the 2006 event poster.
About Plein Air Painting:
Plein Air painting is a relatively modern (since the invention of portable tube paints, circa 1850) genre of painting. I feel it is a truthful way of painting as opposed to relying on photos. The artist and nature are in direct contact. Conditions such as weather, light and sometimes unusual happenings all add the charm and challenge of painting outdoors on the spot. For myself, pulling off a good plien air painting is extremely gratifying and fun (regardless of the outcome)."
Non-painting spouses or companions are welcome as there is plenty for them to do and see while the artists paint.
